You Cannot Control Gas Prices. But You Can Control What You Drive.
Ohio consistently ranks among the highest states for gas prices per mile driven. Whether you want a smarter gas vehicle or you are ready to explore electric, we have more options in stock right now than any other Columbus Chevrolet dealer.
You Are Not Imagining It - Gas Is Costing You More Than It Should
The average Ohio driver puts 15,000 miles on their vehicle each year. At today's Columbus-area gas prices, that is real money leaving your household every month - money that could stay in your pocket with the right vehicle choice.
The good news: you have two strong paths forward. A highly fuel-efficient gas vehicle like the Chevy Trax - rated up to 32 MPG highway - can meaningfully cut your monthly fuel bill without changing your routine. And if you are open to electric, the math shifts even more dramatically: EV owners in Ohio routinely spend 60 to 70 percent less to power their vehicle per mile than gas drivers do today.
We are not here to push you toward one or the other. We are here to show you the real numbers for your situation and let you decide.

Two Ways Forward
Smarter Gas, or No Gas at All
There is no universally right answer. The better path depends on your driving habits, your charging situation, and your budget. Here is an honest look at both.
Stay With Gas - But Smarter
Lower fuel costs, no lifestyle change
+
The Chevy Trax gets up to 32 MPG highway - significantly better than most SUVs and trucks. Starting in the low $20s.
+
No charging infrastructure needed. Fill up anywhere, same as always.
+
Lower purchase price means more of your savings go toward the payment difference vs. your current vehicle.
+
Best for drivers with longer highway commutes or who regularly drive to areas without charging access.
Go Electric - The Bigger Savings
Dramatically lower fuel cost, simpler ownership
+
Ohio electricity averages ~$0.13/kWh - equivalent to roughly $1.00 to $1.20 per gallon of gas in energy terms.
+
No oil changes, fewer brake jobs (regenerative braking), no transmission service. Lower maintenance costs over time.
+
Most EV owners charge at home overnight - you leave every morning with a full charge without stopping at a gas station.
+
Chevrolet offers competitive incentive programs on EV models. Ask our team about current offers that can meaningfully reduce your purchase price.

Why Large Trax Inventory Matters Right Now
The Trax has been one of the fastest-selling Chevrolets in Columbus for good reason - it is genuinely affordable, genuinely efficient, and genuinely useful as a daily driver. Having a large inventory means you choose the trim and color you want, not the one that is left. Most dealers have three or four.

Common Questions
Questions People Ask Us About Switching Away From Gas
Click any question to expand.
At Ohio's average residential electricity rate of around $0.13/kWh, the Equinox EV costs roughly 3 cents per mile to drive. A typical gas vehicle at 25 MPG and $3.60/gallon costs about 14 cents per mile. For a driver doing 15,000 miles a year, that is the difference between paying roughly $450 versus $2,160 in annual fuel costs - a savings of about $1,700 per year.
It depends on what you are currently driving. If you are in an older truck or larger SUV getting 16 to 18 MPG, moving to a Trax at 32 MPG effectively cuts your fuel bill nearly in half - around $800 to $1,000 per year at current Columbus gas prices for a typical driver. The Trax also starts in the low $20s, which makes the monthly payment conversation easier than it might be for an EV.
Chevrolet and Dave Gill Chevrolet offer competitive incentive programs on EV models. The federal Clean Vehicle Tax Credit of up to $7,500 expired September 30, 2025. However GM regularly offers its own financing rates, cash offers, and lease incentives independent of federal credits. Ask our team about every current offer available at the time of your purchase - the numbers can still be very strong depending on the model and timing.
Home charging is the most convenient option but not the only one. Columbus has a growing public charging network including Level 2 and DC fast chargers at grocery stores, workplaces, and along major corridors. If your situation makes home charging difficult - apartment, rental, shared parking - we will be straight with you about whether an EV makes sense right now or whether the Trax is the smarter move until your situation changes.
The EZ EV Car lifetime maintenance program is Dave Gill Chevrolet's exclusive ownership benefit for customers who purchase an electric vehicle from us. It covers lifetime tire rotations, multi-point inspections, and EV-specific service support for the life of the vehicle. It is our commitment to making EV ownership as simple and low-cost as possible - and to being the dealership you actually want to come back to.
EVs eliminate several major recurring maintenance items: no oil changes, no transmission service, no spark plugs. Brake wear is also reduced significantly because regenerative braking handles most of the deceleration. The main EV-specific maintenance items are tire rotations - covered under our EZ EV program - and eventual battery health monitoring. Independent studies consistently show EV owners spend 20 to 40 percent less on maintenance over a vehicle's lifetime compared to gas vehicle owners.
What Our Customers Say
Real Columbus Drivers
★★★★★
I was skeptical about EVs but the team at Dave Gill actually ran the numbers with me - my commute, my electricity rate, my current car payment. It was the clearest conversation I had ever had at a dealership. I have been driving my Equinox EV for six months and my monthly fuel spend went from $280 to about $40.
Google Review - Columbus, OH

Bought a Trax after trading in my old Explorer. The gas savings alone are covering most of the payment difference. Dave Gill had more Trax inventory than anywhere else I looked, and they did not try to talk me into something I did not need. Straightforward and honest.
Tell us what you are driving, how far you drive, and what you pay for gas. We will show you exactly what each option would cost - no pressure, no agenda.
