A used truck dealer is a dime a dozen, with many promising an exceptional selection of models that meet every need without forcing you to compromise. It's an enticing promise, but it's often too good to be true since few dealerships actually follow through. Fortunately, Dave Gill Chevrolet is the exception, and we have a long history of success to prove it.

We're proud to be the leading used truck dealer in the region, helping generation after generation of drivers find the best workhorses to fulfill their needs and exceed their expectations. While we're incredibly honored to carry the entire Chevy lineup, our selection isn't limited to the beloved bowtie brand. We know the appeal of having a vast selection, and we work diligently to ensure our customers have the best from Chevrolet, Ram, and Ford to browse through on our lot.

An expansive inventory is integral to serving our customers, but so is equipping you with everything you need to kickstart your search. For example, Chevrolet, Ford, and Ram are renowned for building exceptional road warriors, but what makes them so special? As your used truck dealer, we have that answer with what we like to call the truck trifecta of tailgates, tech, and trailering...

Tailgates

Customers rarely think twice about the tailgate because, for decades, automakers never gave us a reason to; the tailgate was nothing more than a means to access the bed. But today, shopping for a used truck is entirely different because automakers like Chevrolet have changed the segment by introducing the multifunctional tailgate. While the traditional tailgate is still an industry-wide staple, there are plenty of used models with these revolutionary tailgate designs that can dramatically impact how you use the truck and access your cargo.

While the Multi-Flex Tailgate is exclusive to Chevrolet, Ram offers a unique multifunctional tailgate that builds on the traditional design. For example, you can find a used Ram 1500 with a drop-down tailgate that opens like a barn door with a 60/40 split. The unique configuration lets you open either side or both, modulating your access to whatever is in the bed.

As for Ford, you won't find many multifunctional tailgates on used models like the F-150. Moreover, while some Ford models have a tailgate step, it's not a standard or common feature. As a result, Ford takes a backseat to Chevrolet and Ram here.

Tech

One of the most exciting aspects of shopping for a used truck is knowing you can still enjoy the latest technology at a fraction of the cost. Advancements in the industry give us cutting-edge connectivity, safety, and driver assistance features, many of which are industry-wide standards. For example, most used trucks have rearview cameras, cruise control, connectivity tools like smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, and Bluetooth capability. These features are integral to your experience in the driver's seat-but these aren't all the tech-savvy tools you can enjoy.

Chevrolet, Ford, and Ram constantly introduce new truck features that improve the user experience, particularly when trailering. Over the years, this started as a backup camera and has extended to include expansive camera systems and trailering technologies that help you navigate the trailer in nearly every condition. For example, you can find a used Silverado with a multi-camera system offering over a dozen unique views, including a Transparent Trailer View that shows you behind the trailer when traveling. In addition, Chevrolet includes the industry's first in-vehicle trailering app, which lets you create custom trailer profiles, mark pre-departure checklists, and monitor trailer diagnostics.

Ford and Ram follow suit and outfit their trucks with tools that lessen the learning curve when towing a trailer. For example, Ford's Pro Trailer Hitch Assist and Pro Trailer Backup Assist make it easier to hitch up your trailer and navigate in reverse. The same is true for Ram tools like the Trailer Reverse Steering Control, which lets you turn a knob and use the center display to position the trailer without looking over your shoulder. These tools engineer confidence and redefine the towing experience.

Trailering

There's no question that Chevrolet, Ford, and Ram offer some of the most potent powerhouses in the industry. Trucks like the Silverado, Colorado, F-150, Ram 1500, and their heavy-duty counterparts can tow heavy loads without breaking a sweat-but some are more capable than others. This race to build the best and most capable truck has defined the industry for decades, and drivers reap the rewards as Chevy, Ram, and Ford race toward the finish line.

Mid-Size

Midsize marvels like the Chevy Colorado and Ford Ranger offer a unique advantage to drivers looking for a smaller truck that's agile and easy to maneuver. Fortunately, Chevrolet and Ford deliver as much but also ensure these midsize trucks can tow modest-sized loads. With their towing capacities anywhere from 3,000 to 7,700 lbs depending on the configuration, a used Colorado or Ranger can easily pull a jet ski, pop-up camper, or small trailer.

Full-Size

There are many options in the full-size segment thanks to best-selling models like the F-150, Silverado 1500, and Ram 1500. Chevrolet, Ford, and Ram ensure their full-size trucks are ready to tackle every job by offering multi-engine lineups that deliver a wide range of power and capability. You'll find everything from Chevrolet's proven V8 engines to Ford's EcoBoost and Ram's HEMI and Pentastar powertrains. These engines offer a broad band of power, with excellent torque ratings that deliver the low-end power needed to tow heavier loads like a camper, fishing boat, or large trailer.

Full-size trucks like the F-150, Ram 1500, and Silverado 1500 offer the best of both worlds. Their ability to tow heavy loads doesn't diminish how much weight they can support in the bed. For example, the 2020 Ram 1500 can tow up to 12,750 lbs and offers a payload of 2,320 lbs. Ford delivers a best-in-class payload of 3,270 lbs on the 2020 F-150, which pairs well with the truck's 13,000-lb trailering maximum. The 2020 Silverado outshines the F-150 by 400 lbs with its 13,400-lb trailering maximum, offering a smaller, 2,250-lb payload.

Heavy-Duty

Chevrolet, Ram, and Ford offer exceptional full-size trucks that set the stage for their heavy-duty counterparts. The Silverado HD, Ford Super Duty, and Ram lineups include 2500 and 3500 models with outstanding capability courtesy of their diesel powerplants. Where the Ram 2500 and 3500 rely on the Cummins, Ford lets Super Duty drivers reap the rewards of the Power Stroke as Chevrolet offers the Duramax to power the Silverado HD fleet. While you can find a used heavy-duty truck with a gas-powered engine, the pure capability of a heavy-duty truck is best experienced with a diesel engine that nearly doubles the towing capacity of its full-size siblings, particularly when you add dual rear wheels.

The Truck Trifecta and Why It Matters

Shopping for a used truck is an excellent way to put your hard-earned money to work. You're paying closer to the actual value of the truck and avoiding the rapid depreciation that befalls every new vehicle. The rewards continue when you invest in a Chevrolet, Ford, or Ram.

These automakers are renowned for shaping the American automotive landscape by building class-leading road warriors that defy convention. Trucks like the Silverado, F-150, and Ram 1500 are incredibly versatile, practical, and capable. They can expertly navigate your weekday commute, tow heavy machinery between job sites, and take you deep into the woods for a weekend camping trip with family and friends.

Chevrolet, Ford, and Ram make this versatility a standard, refusing to ask drivers to compromise. As a result, drivers reap the benefits of the truck trifecta because the automakers know what genuinely matters to their buyers. They recognize the importance of adaptable features like the tailgate, the necessity of towing heavy loads, and technology's integral role in instilling confidence behind the wheel. It's the truck trifecta in all its glory, and you'll find it throughout our used truck inventory here at Dave Gill Chevrolet.
