Chevy is well known for making some of the most powerful and sophisticated trucks on the road, but even by their standards, the remarkable Silverado 3500 HD stands out. This is the truck to choose if you are looking for a pickup that can handle tremendous amounts of work while delivering a driving experience that few other models come close to. While this pickup has been a remarkable option for many years now, the 2025 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD continues to build on what has come before to provide exceptional power and a driving experience few other vehicles out there can rival. Inside and out, this is a truck for people who need to get some serious work done and who want to be comfortable and connected while they tackle whatever needs doing-if that sounds like you, then you have found your next pickup.

At the heart of the Silverado 3500 HD and everything it can do is one of the two available powertrains that Chevy offers and an incredible amount of energy. The standard engine is a 6.6L V8 conventional gas-powered beauty that provides 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. If you prefer the power and dependability of a diesel engine, then there is a 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel V8 available with 470 hp and an incredible 975 lb-ft of torque; both engines come paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission for a smooth and responsive drive. Both engines are available with either two-wheel drive (2WD) or four-wheel drive (4WD), as well as single rear-wheel (SRW) or dual rear-wheel (DRW) configurations, depending on what you prefer.

The result is a truck that can handle a serious amount of work, no matter what kind of setup and configuration you want. When properly equipped, the 2025 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD offers more than 7,000 lbs of maximum payload capacity and massive amounts of conventional towing. If you need to haul a tremendous amount of weight behind you, then a DRW model with the available diesel engine is the way to go, providing you with 36,000 lbs of gooseneck or fifth wheel towing capacity. This is incredible performance from this truck, and, perhaps best of all, you can also get terrific comfort and tech features inside. A seven-inch Infotainment display is standard in the Silverado 3500 HD, for example, but a 13.4-inch display and more remarkable upgrades are available to elevate every moment you spend on the road.

Performance

Engines

There are many different factors to consider when shopping for a truck, though few are as important as the engine and the kind of performance it delivers. Just about every other aspect of your driving experience depends on the engine, and the last thing you want is an underpowered powertrain. Fortunately, Chevy understands this, so it is no surprise that the 2025 Silverado 3500 HD has two of the most impressive engines offered in the auto industry. No matter what kind of power you are looking for in your truck, Chevy has you covered here.

For starters, there is a standard 6.6L V8 gas engine offered for the Silverado 3500 HD, which is the ideal choice if you prefer the feel, power, and convenience of a conventional gas engine. This beast delivers 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque, which is excellent for this kind of full-size truck and more than enough for many drivers. It comes paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and, as we said, you can pair it with standard 2WD or 4WD to get the kind of driving experience you want. All of these options make it much easier for us to get you the right truck with the performance and capability you need.

If you are looking for something with even more muscle under the hood, then there is an available 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel V8 engine. With this absolute monster, you get to take advantage of 470 hp and an incredible 975 lb-ft of torque, letting you take your drive further each day and get a lot more done. You can also pair this with either 2WD or 4WD to get the kind of performance and traction you prefer, plus either an SRW or DRW configuration to meet your needs. Considering the size and abilities of this truck, it makes sense that Chevy delivers so much power, but we still love to see it.

Capability

Maximum Towing

For many of us, when checking out an impressive truck, nothing is more important than the kind of work it can handle, which typically comes down to towing and payload capabilities. Chevy understands this quite well, and the Silverado 3500 HD is built to tackle anything you need to do and keep going strong for a long time. Numerous factors impact the trailering and payload ratings you will find on different Silverado 3500 HD models, however, so keep that in mind. To keep things simple, we will look at the maximum capabilities of this truck in a few key configurations, but always check the details of any specific model you are interested in.

When it comes to conventional towing, the capability of the Silverado 3500 HD depends largely on which engine you choose. The standard gas engine can handle up to 18,700 lbs of conventional towing, while the diesel engine lets you push that to 20,000 lbs of maximum towing capacity. If you are interested in doing some fifth wheel or gooseneck towing, then you get much better capabilities with the diesel engine and a DRW setup. The standard gas engine with an SRW configuration can handle up to 19,080 lbs at most, but if you go with a diesel engine and a DRW setup, then the Silverado 3500 HD can haul up to 36,000 lbs behind it-that's a huge difference.

Maximum Payload

For payload, the amount of weight you can load onto the Silverado 3500 HD depends on similar aspects, and having a DRW setup makes a big difference here, too. If you go with a DRW model, then a 2025 Silverado 3500 HD with the standard gas engine can handle 7,237 lbs of maximum payload thanks to support from the extra rear wheels. Choosing the diesel engine lowers that slightly to 6,638 lbs of maximum payload, which might matter if you are looking to really push how much weight your truck can handle. But if you need to haul a massive trailer or camper behind your truck, then the slight trade for optimal fifth wheel towing is worth it.

Sophisticated Features

You have four different trim levels available for the 2025 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD, which gives you terrific options and lets you choose the model that is right for you. Looking at the starting WT model, it has a standard seven-inch Infotainment display inside, with a six-speaker sound system, and a 3.5-inch monochromatic Driver Information Center display. We find vinyl seating in this model, along with a standard steering wheel, Remote Keyless Entry, power windows and door locks, and cruise control. One thing we should note is that the WT is available with a version of the diesel engine that features a power takeoff, making it ideal for upfits and accessories that require power from the engine.

Moving up to the LT trim level, you get a number of excellent upgrades, starting with a gorgeous 13.4-inch Infotainment display up front with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. The LT still has a six-speaker sound system, but you get cloth seating inside, a steering wheel with mounted controls, and a 12.3-inch color Driver Information Center screen. For an incredibly sophisticated interior, the High Country gives you a seven-speaker Bose Premium sound system with a Richbass woofer, 10-way power front seats with perforated leather seating including heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and even a heated steering wheel. With adaptive cruise control, a wireless charging pad, and dual-zone automatic climate control, this is the ultimate truck if you need a connected, mobile workspace or simply want to enjoy every moment you spend on the road.
